Nigerian by birth and Guinean by love and conviction, Comrade Attayer Maïga was among the great Africans who accompanied President Ahmed Sékou Touré since the early hours of our country’s accession to international sovereignty. He bowed out on September 9, 2024, in Conakry, at his home near Démoudoula, in the commune of Ratoma.
Dean Maïga is no more. He has gone to bed forever. He will no longer speak to us about the events that have marked the history of our country. It is an enormous loss. He is a library, one of the worthy sons of Guinea, of Africa who has just left us.
A great witness to history and one of the emblematic figures of the regime of Comrade Ahmed Touré, father of Guinea’s independence, the man was one of the rare Guinean intellectuals who opened his heart to the press to talk about the twists and turns of Guinea’s history under the first Republic. True to his convictions, he has several times invited, to contradictory debates of course, those who think that the regime of Comrade Ahmed Sékou Touré has done nothing but harm to Guinea. Despite his incessant appeal on this subject, no one has deigned to respond to his invitation, because the man had a great and perfect mastery of the history of Guinea. His rich and courageous testimonies on the history of Guinea and Africa, in the various media, in particular the program “Witnesses of History” hosted by Dean Ansoumane Bangoura, will continue to fuel the debate to enlighten the lantern of new generations.
In short, the disappearance of Comrade Attayer Maïga is a huge loss not only for the Republic of Guinea, but also for the entire cradle of humanity, because he contributed enormously, especially in terms of the manifestation of the truth concerning the life, the works of Comrade Ahmed Sékou Touré and the plots that marked the course of our common heritage from 1958 to 1984.
Dean Maïga is not dead and will never die, because as the other would say, death does not take a revolutionary. Rather, it multiplies his life in each of the arms of those who remained behind him and who are ready to carry high the torch of his struggle. The dean is simply resting. What could be more normal, especially after having lived such a rich and fulfilling life!
Peace to the soul of our late Comrade and may the land of Guinea that he served with love, devotion and loyalty, be light for him forever. Amine!
