Dancer Michaela DePrince dies at 29

This Friday it was announced that Michaela DePrincea Boston Ballet dancer, died at the age of 29. The news was shared on her Instagram account.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of star dancer Michaela Mabinty DePrince, whose artistry touched countless hearts and whose spirit inspired so many, leaving an indelible mark on the world of ballet and beyond,” the statement reads in part.

Michaela’s team said the incident was surprising. The cause of her death was not disclosed.

“Although her time with us was all too brief, her brilliance and legacy will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were touched by her story, for generations to come. Our love and prayers go out to her chosen family, her friends and those who loved her,” they added.

In 2011, she was one of the protagonists of the documentary First Position. Michaela’s story began in Sierra Leone, an African country where she grew up as an orphan before being adopted by a family in the United States.
