According to the Italian media, the former footballer died in a hospital in the city of Palermo after a battle with intestinal cancer.

Skillaci started his career as a professional football player in the C series club “Messina” in 1982, but in 1989 he joined “Juventus” of Turin, where he spent three seasons. The forward played two more seasons for Inter Milan, but spent the last four years of his career at the Japanese club Iwata Jubilo, finishing it in 1997.
With the “Juventus” team, Skillaci became the winner of the Italian Cup and the UEFA Cup, which he also carried over his head in the “Inter” shirt.
In the Italian national team in 1990 and 1991, the striker played a total of 16 games and scored seven goals, six of them in the final tournament of the World Cup, in which such stars as German Lothar Mateus and Argentine legend Diego Maradona also participated.
