Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis scored his fourth century in the seventh Test of his career against New Zealand on Wednesday (September 18). Tested his skill and patience on the hard pitch of the goal and batted well.

Kamindu is closer to Brandman in the century

He scored 114 runs off 11 fours off 173 balls and was dismissed as the last batsman of the day in the 87th over. In this century, his total runs in 11 innings stood at 801. His strike rate increased to 89.00. If he does well with the bat in the second innings as well, then Kamindu will reach Sir Don Bradman’s all-time highest strike rate of 99.94.

By scoring a century today, he became the first Sri Lankan to score four centuries in just 11 innings. Before that no one could score four centuries in such a short innings.

Sri Lanka ended the first day by scoring 302 runs in 88 overs with the loss of 7 wickets thanks to Mendis’ 114 and Kusal Mendis’ 50-run innings. Ramesh Mendis on 14 and Prabhath Jayasuriya are unbeaten on zero runs. Both of them will come out to bat on the second day tomorrow, Thursday.

New Zealand’s William O’Rourke took 3 wickets and Glenn Phillips took 2 wickets with the ball. Tim Southee and Aijaz Patel took 1 wicket each.
