iPhone 16 series smartphones can be restored wirelessly

by time news

The iPhone 16 will reportedly have a feature that allows you to wirelessly restore your device’s software.

Here’s what we know

This feature, known as RecoveryOS, is already available on Apple Watch and Apple TV. Now iPhone 16 users will be able to restore their devices by simply placing them next to another iPhone or iPad running iOS 18 or iPadOS 18. The restore will happen over Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, eliminating the need to connect the iPhone to a computer with a cable. RecoveryOS will download the latest version of iOS to the second iPhone or iPad and transfer it to the damaged iPhone.

The new iPhone 16 models have a special recovery partition that handles the process even if the main iOS partition fails to boot. It is not yet known whether RecoveryOS will require additional hardware features to run, and whether it will be available on older iPhone and iPad models.
