El Soni, maintained close relations with some immigration agentswhich for a long time facilitated the procedures for his victims to travel to Mexico, mainly from South American countries, with the promise of becoming models.
After various investigations and complaints made by some of the women who had been victims of Zona Divas’ modus operandi, El Soni was arrested in 2007, but was released shortly afterwards.

Ignacio Santoyo was investigated for more than 10 years, until three victims of sexual exploitation denounced him for being the leader of an international network of human trafficking for sexual exploitation, for which he was recaptured in April 2019 in Quintana Roo.
Through various investigations it was revealed that El Soni maintained a close relationship with members of the organized crime who were asked to end the lives of women who wanted to leave Zona Divas or who provided them with sexual services.
In July 2021, a judge named Monica Del Valle Olivaressentenced Santoyo to 29 years in prison; however, after appealing that decision, his sentence was overturned.

By November 2021, the magistrate Eduardo Alfonso Guerrero Martinez overturned the sentence issued by Judge Del Valle, due to an alleged lack of evidence, and ordered his immediate release from prison.
To date, Ignacio Santoyo Cervantes, alias El Soni, is at liberty.
