(Hasher Ahsan) A joint declaration of Supreme Court Bar Association and Pakistan Bar Council was issued.
The declaration states that the amendment of the constitution is the power of the parliament, there should be no amendment contrary to the basic features of the constitution. The final draft of the constitutional amendments should be shared with the committee of lawyers’ representatives, except the elected representatives of lawyers, no one has the authority to call for a strike.
In the joint declaration, it has been further said that the formation of the Constitutional Court should be done after consultation with the lawyers, and the application of the Supreme Court Bar Association against the court decision should be set for hearing in 36 A.
A committee consisting of bar councils and bar associations should be formed to discuss the constitutional package. The committee will submit its report in seven days. The committee based on the proposed amendments will include the vice chairman of the Pakistan Bar Council and the chairman of the executive committee. The vice-chairman of the provincial bar councils and the chairman of the executive committee will be included, besides the president and general secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association will be included in the committee.
The president of the Supreme Court Bar said that he would be happy if the dissenting lawyers would come today, and those who disagreed would ask questions to the federal law minister.
