Sana: A claim by Iran-backed Houthi extremists of Yemen has created a stir in the Middle East. On Monday, a senior Houthi official said that the US has offered to recognize the Houthi government of Sanaa to stop the attacks of the Yemeni extremist group. This statement of the Houthi official came a day after the group’s ballistic missile attack on Israel. For the first time, a missile fired from Yemen reached central Israel, after which Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that the Houthis will have to pay a heavy price for this attack. Meanwhile, the US has rejected the claim of Houthi extremists.
Houthi official claimed
Mohammad al-Bukhaiti, a member of the Houthi group’s political bureau, told Al Jazeera Mubasher TV, “There is always dialogue after every operation of ours. These calls are based on either threats or some inducements, but they have given up hope of achieving any achievement in that direction.” Al-Bukhaiti said the calls made after the attacks included some through mediators from the US and Britain. Israeli media outlet Jerusalem Post quoted an unnamed official as saying that the Houthis’ comments were “completely fabricated”.
Houthi attacks in the Red Sea
Along with attacks on Israel, the Yemeni extremist group is also attacking ships passing through the Red Sea. Houthi extremists claim that they are targeting ships that are associated with Israel in support of Palestinians in Gaza. Since November last year, the Houthis have damaged more than 80 ships in missile and drone attacks. Two ships have been sunk and one has been seized. The Houthis have killed at least three crew members of the ships in the attacks.
Ballistic fire on Israel
Earlier on Sunday morning, Houthi extremists attacked Israel with a ballistic missile, which penetrated Arrow air defense and reached central Israel. This is the first time a Yemeni missile has reached Israeli territory. This attack has posed a threat to Israeli security. Especially when the Houthis are dependent on missiles from Iran. The arrival of a missile from Yemen to Israeli territory proves Iran’s military capability.
