The Fritzbox manufacturer AVM has started distributing FritzOS 8 for its devices. Users can look forward to more than just new features.
Fritzbox users are getting a new update for their routers and modems. Manufacturer AVM has started distributing FritzOS 8. The Fritzbox 7590 AX is the first device to receive the update, AVM announced. Other models are to follow.
According to the manufacturer, numerous innovations relate primarily to the area of home networking and smart home. On the Fritzbox user interface, the user can now activate the window open detection for selected radiator controls via the device configuration page of the “FRITZ!DECT 350 door/window contact,” it says.
AVM now also offers new templates for setting the temperature for radiator controls as well as the brightness, saturation and color of lamps. The position of roller shutters can now also be adjusted in percentage values via the device.
“In addition, the adjustable temperature of the radiator controls can now be limited by minimum and maximum values,” it continues. And routines can now also be triggered at a preset or astronomically determined time.
Using an improved online monitor, Fritzbox owners can monitor the utilization of the Internet connection by individual devices in the home and guest network. In order to better distribute the data rate in the home network, the data traffic of different devices can be compared.
The Wireguard VPN tunnel, which can be used to encrypt connections, also supports the transmission of IPv6 data under FritzOS 8.
According to AVM, users can use the integrated Wireguard assistant to establish encrypted connections to mobile devices such as smartphones and notebooks via QR code or software.
In addition, AVM has increased the number of simultaneous DECT calls possible from three to five in the new operating system for its routers. The stability of phone calls has also been increased.
