Journalists have uncovered new details about attacks using Hezbollah communications equipment. Israel was behind the Hungarian paging company and created it to target Hezbollah, according to three intelligence sources told The New York Times.

Sources claim that there were two other similar companies whose main task was to disguise the fact that the pagers were made by Israeli intelligence. This Hungarian company served regular customers and regularly sent them pagers. However, the pagers for Hezbollah members were made separately and were equipped with explosives hidden in the batteries. Since 2022, they have been delivered to Lebanon.

Earlier, Cursor reported that Israel had placed explosive devices in pagers ordered by Hezbollah from a Taiwanese company. This was stated in a New York Times report published after a recent series of pager explosions.

Citing unnamed U.S. and other officials, the report said the Gold Apollo devices were loaded with explosives before they were sent to Lebanon. They also had a remote detonation switch built into them.

The blasts occurred after a message from Hezbollah leaders was sent to pagers, two officials said. The pagers began beeping and then exploded seconds later.

More than 3,000 pagers were ordered, and the American newspaper reported that some were given to Hezbollah allies in Syria and Iran. However, the report noted that only those pagers that were turned on and receiving messages at the time were affected.

The exact date Hezbollah ordered and received the pagers is unknown. However, the report says that earlier this year, the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, ordered his followers to give up their cell phones over fears of Israeli surveillance.

Earlier, Cursor reported on how Israel assesses Hezbollah’s losses as a result of the pager explosions.
