(ANSA) – FANO, 17 SEPTEMBER – Free visits to the Santa Croce hospital in Fano to prevent head and neck tumors.
This is the initiative of the ENT department of the Pesaro-Urbino Territorial Health Authority (Ast PU) which has joined the European education and awareness campaign promoted in Italy by the Italian Association of Head and Neck Oncology (AIOCC).
To access the free visit to the Fano Hospital department, reservations are required by calling on September 18, at the telephone number 0721-882434 from 12 to 13:30.
Furthermore, the Ast Pu has established a diagnostic therapeutic care pathway (PDTA) for the overall care of the patient, that is, from the planning of staging tests, to the definition of a therapeutic program, up to the identification of the needs and care devices for the implementation of the treatment program.
Currently, 436 patients have been managed in the last four years, with an annual trend in continuous growth, going from 80 cases in 2022, to 139 in 2023 and another 90 already taken care of in 2024.
In Italy, more than 9 thousand cases are diagnosed each year, of which approximately 72% are among men; however, cases are also increasing among women. The most common cases are found among those over 40, but a recent increase has also been observed among the youngest. Figures that make head and neck cancer the seventh most common tumor in Europe.
“Prevention of the disease is crucial for an early diagnosis, in the presence of which the survival rate rises to 80-90%, against a life expectancy of only 5 years for those who discover the disease in an advanced stage” – says the director of the otorhinolaryngology operating unit, Luca D’Ascanio.
