/ The Turkish newspaper “Hurriyet” revealed that Ankara is deeply concerned that America does not intend to withdraw its forces from Syria only, but from the entire Middle East.
The newspaper quoted sources in the Turkish Ministry of Defense as saying that reports about US plans to withdraw forces from the region should be treated with restraint, and official statements and concrete steps in this regard should be awaited.
The newspaper noted that the United States realized that it was “drawn into the Middle East quagmire by Israel and Iran,” and that it fell into the “trap” of providing unconditional support to Israel, especially after Hamas’ attack on Gaza.
This process began to spread to the area extending from the Red Sea to Pakistan. In this regard, the United States began to search for a solution to the problem.
Earlier this week, Foreign Policy magazine reported, citing sources in the US State Department and the Pentagon, that the White House was no longer interested in the US presence in Syria, and now “considers it unnecessary.”
According to the magazine, the US administration is discussing when and how to withdraw troops, although no final decision has been made on the matter yet. The White House later denied this information in a comment to Al Arabiya.
It is noteworthy that the Turkish authorities have repeatedly accused the United States of sponsoring and providing support to the Kurdistan Workers’ Party and its Syrian branch. Ankara says that such a policy is inconsistent with the alliance relations between the United States and Turkey.
The Turkish authorities consider the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and Kurdish forces in Syria to be the main threats to Turkey’s national security. Since 2015, the Turkish military has been carrying out regular operations against Kurdish militants in northern Syria.
