RB Leipzig will kick off the new Champions League season on Thursday, September 19. The team of Marco Rose will initiate their journey in the newly redesigned tournament with an away match against the Spanish club Atlético Madrid (from 21:00 in the LIVE TICKER).
Rose is counting on loan player Arthur Vermeeren in the starting lineup against Atlético. The Belgian was loaned from Atlético to Leipzig for a year in the summer, and if Vermeeren plays a certain number of competitive matches, there will be an obligatory purchase. The contract would then run until 2029.

Atlético extremely strong at home
Leipzig faces a difficult challenge right from the start of the Champions League. Atlético is among the three strongest teams in La Liga, along with Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. On Thursday (21:00), with Rose back on the sidelines, Leipzig will make their debut in the completely revamped Champions League at Atlético Madrid. “We’re looking forward to the game. It’s a different setup in the Champions League. We’re playing on Thursday. It’s new for everyone. We play four times at home, four times away. Tough opponents await us, but we’re excited about it,” said Rose.
