Washington: Before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US, the Biden administration has made a major diplomatic move. The US court has issued summons to the Indian government in the case of conspiracy to murder Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. In this summons, the Indian government has been accused of plotting to kill Pannu. The Indian Foreign Ministry has strongly objected to this and termed the case as completely unfair. Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri has said that when these issues were first brought to our attention, we took action. A high-level committee is engaged (in this matter).

When is PM Modi going to America

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving for the US on a three-day visit on September 21. During this, PM Modi will attend the 4th Quad Leaders Summit in Wilmington, Delaware. While in New York, Prime Minister Modi will address a conference of the Indian community on September 22. The Prime Minister will also interact with CEOs of leading US companies to promote greater cooperation between the two countries in cutting-edge areas of AI, quantum computing, semiconductors and biotechnology. The Prime Minister is also expected to interact with active think tanks and other stakeholders in the India-US bilateral landscape. On September 23, Prime Minister Modi will address the ‘Summit of the Future’ at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The theme of the summit is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow’.

Whose name is included in the summons

This summons has been issued by the US District Court for the Southern District of New York. It also includes the names of the Indian government, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, former Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW) chief Samant Goel, RAW agent Vikram Yadav and Indian businessman Nikhil Gupta. The US court has asked all the parties to file their reply within 21 days.

Pannu herself shared the copy of the summons

Pannu has shared a copy of this summons on social media platform X (Twitter), which has been banned in India. Khalistani terrorist Pannu has US and Canadian citizenship. The conspiracy to kill Pannu, a declared terrorist in India, has become a thorn in India-US diplomatic relations. In November 2023, the US Justice Department accused Indian citizen Nikhil Gupta of being involved in a conspiracy to kill Sikh for Justice leader Pannu.

America has made many allegations against India

The US Justice Department had said that Nikhil Gupta had hired and paid a hired killer to kill Pannu. It was also alleged that Nikhil Gupta was asked to do this job by an Indian RAW agent. However, India has denied these allegations. India has also formed a high-level committee to investigate the US allegations. Nikhil Gupta was arrested from the Czech Republic and extradited to the US. However, Nikhil Gupta had declared himself innocent.
