The national teams of Bulgaria recorded a draw and a loss in the 8th round of the Chess Olympiad in Budapest.
Our ladies drew 2:2 points with the strong team of Georgia.
The representative of the former Soviet republic looked completely confident of their victory after forcing a draw on the first, second and fourth boards with the expectation that on the third Nino Batsiashvili with the white pieces would realize her advantage in the endgame against Viktoria Radeva. However, the Bulgarian did not give up and waited for a mistake by Batiashvili to get to the draw, and with that the draw in the match.
In the other three games, Antoineta Stefanova made a draw with black with Nana Dzagnidze, Nurgyul Salimova made the same match with white, Lela Javakhishvili, and on the fourth board Beloslava Krasteva and Bela Hotenashvili drew.
With the point won, the Bulgarian team now has 12 match points and remains in 13th position.
In the men’s category, Bulgaria lost by 1.5:2.5 points to Brazil. On the fourth board, Grigor Grigorov lost with the black pieces from Lucas to Vale Karlovo, where the difference between the two teams came from. In the other three games Ivan Cheparinov – Luis Paulo Supi, Alexander Fir – Arkadiy Naidich and Momchil Petkov – Renato Quintilano, draws were made.
The Bulgarian team remains with 10 match points three rounds before the end of the tournament.
For men, the leader in the ranking with the maximum 16 match points is India.
India, Poland and Kazakhstan lead the women’s team with 14 match points each.
