Tourist bus on its way to Machu Picchu overturns; Mexicans are injured

In the city of Cusco, Peru, a tourist bus overturned with at least 20 people inside. Its destination was Machu Picchu.

According to local media, the driver fell from a 15-meter slope on the Hiram Bingham Highway. Witnesses say fog could have been one of the causes of the accident.

The Peruvian National Police and some people helped rescue the tourists, who were divided between locals and foreigners, including those from Mexico.

The company Consettur Machupicchu SAC issued a statement regarding the accident and mentioned that it will provide support to those affected.

“The Peruvian National Police has arrived at the scene of the accident to begin the corresponding investigations. The company will provide details of the accident as soon as it has more information.”

Mexico speaks out

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it will support the affected compatriots without specifying the number of injured. Alicia Bárcena, head of the department, asked that the affected people call the Mexican Embassy in Peru.
