Acting UNSMIL Chargé d’Affaires Stephanie Khoury discussed on Wednesday in Rome with the Director-General for Political and Security Affairs at the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pasquale Ferrara, the successive developments in Libya, particularly the ongoing crisis at the Central Bank of Libya and the closure of oil fields.
Khoury said via her Twitter account that she and Ferrara stressed the importance of unifying and legitimizing the Libyan state institutions, and that dialogue is the only way to achieve sustainable solutions to the crisis in Libya.
In the same context, Khoury met yesterday, Tuesday, with the heads of the elected committees in the Supreme Council of State, where she discussed with them the ongoing efforts to end the crisis of the Central Bank of Libya.
Khoury also discussed with the heads of the committees ways to end the division within the council, and the urgent need to revive the political process and pave the way for elections.
These meetings come amid the ongoing crisis of the Central Bank since the middle of last month, as talks are taking place between the House of Representatives and the Supreme Council of State on the one hand, and the Presidential Council on the other hand, without reaching a final agreement to resolve the dispute over the management of the bank.
