‘Mickey 17’ trailer

Director Bong Joon-ho’s new film ‘Mickey 17’ has released its first trailer.

Distributor Warner Bros. Korea released the first trailer for ‘Mickey 17’ on the 18th. In addition to the global trailer, a trailer produced for Korean audiences was also released.

‘Mickey 17’ is a film that depicts the unpredictable story that unfolds when Mickey, who is an expendable item (Expendable) that is deployed for dangerous work and is reprinted when he dies, is going through the crisis of his 17th death, and Mickey 18 is printed thinking he is dead.

As can be guessed from the number after his name, the film centers around the protagonist Mickey 17 (played by Robert Pattinson) who goes through a cycle of life and death, along with interesting characters and colorful incidents appearing on the ice planet that humanity is trying to develop, as well as the precarious coexistence of Mickey 17 and Mickey 18 and mysterious creatures. The first trailer for ‘Mickey 17’ shows a new story and world that is typical of Director Bong Joon-ho, always defying predictions and exceeding expectations.

The trailer begins with lines like “It’s going to be an extreme job,” “You’ll have to get used to dying,” and a gun pointed at a terrified Mickey, showing that Mickey’s extreme job is death. The expression on Mickey’s face as he peacefully floats through space, followed by his wrist being severed right after, hints at the unpredictable developments of “Mickey 17” and Mickey’s turbulent fate. Mickey breathes an unidentified atmosphere, becomes a test subject, and vomits blood. Every time he dies and is printed, the number of Mickey increases.

Robert Pattinson, who has gone back and forth between blockbuster hero and arthouse hero with ‘The Batman’ and ‘Lighthouse’, presents a performance that goes beyond his existing image as ‘Mickey 17’, who is kind enough to say “It’s okay, thank you” even when thrown into an ‘incinerator’. Also, as the impetuous ‘Mickey 18’, who should have the same personality because the data was saved and printed, but even his gaze is different, Robert Pattinson’s appearance going back and forth between polar opposites adds to the anticipation for the coexistence of the two bizarre and dangerous Mickeys. Since ‘multiple’, where two or more people exist at the same time, is illegal, the setting that one of Mickey 17 and Mickey 18 must die is also interesting.

The brave and capable agent, and Mickey’s girlfriend, Nasha, is played by the suspicious Naomi Ackie. Mark Ruffalo as Kenneth Marshall, the commander of the Ice Planet colony with followers, and Toni Collette as his wife, Elsa Marshall, create tension and unexpected humor by going back and forth between the madness and bravado of a religious leader. Steven Yeun, who first worked with director Bong Joon-ho in Okja, plays Timo, a friend who asks Mickey, who is about to die, a friendly yet cruel question, “What does it feel like to die?” The greeting, “Die well, and see you tomorrow,” which has never been heard anywhere in the world, also leaves a unique aftertaste. The identity of the creatures that fill the ice planet where Mickey 17 and Mickey 18 engage in action, and what will happen to humanity, including Mickey 17 and Mickey 18, who meet them, are also added to the curiosity.

Director Bong Joon-ho’s new film ‘Mickey 17’ will be released for the first time worldwide in Korea on January 28, 2025, and will be released globally on January 31.
