Today is the deadline in which Bulgarian citizens can file an objection to the intention to introduce a chat control in encrypted communication with Internet applications. The measure is an initiative of the Council of the European Union in order to have a more serious protection of children from pornography.

Just a few days ago, Bogomil Shopov from “Electronic Border Bulgaria” said that the introduction of such a measure would lead to the complete end-to-end encryption of communication being removed.

In order to introduce scanning or eavesdropping on messages by large companies or law enforcement agencies, this encryption must be broken.

After a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs on Tuesday, the chairman of the e-governance committee in the National Assembly, Bozhidar Bojanov, assured that the encryption will not be removed. But the Ministry of Interior is ready to support a more compromise position.

For now, it will not go as far as scanning all images sent through the applications, Bojanov said. On October 10, Bulgaria will present its official official website. Until then, however, “Electronic Border Bulgaria” encourages people to give their opinions. And Bozhidar Bojanov even suggests that the created special European agency should make a model for artificial intelligence to recognize this type of content. And the model to be shared with the companies making the apps.
