Baghdad – WAA
The Communications and Media Commission organized a scientific symposium on the role of cybersecurity in maintaining digital security, and came out with a set of recommendations.

The spokesman for the Communications and Media Commission, Haider Najm, said in a statement to the (INA), “The Communications and Media Commission hosted an important symposium on cybersecurity and data protection, during which it discussed many details, the most important of which is how government and civil institutions protect their data and even people. The importance of not sharing people’s data with others was also discussed.”
He pointed out that “there are many recommendations that the attendees came out with, including the need to form committees that communicate with the House of Representatives to amend the laws in force to activate cybersecurity and protect data.”
He added that “the Authority stresses the need to protect data and works with the central committees, the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Supreme Committee for Cybersecurity, which works continuously to protect data,” stressing the need for “permanent and important communication with international companies working in information technology and software, and the importance of fortifying software by international companies to avoid its exposure to damage.”
For his part, the head of Balsam Organization for Sustainable Development, Diaa Al-Nasiri, said in a statement to the (INA), “The recent events in Lebanon and the issue of the major cyber attack that institutions were exposed to made us shed light on the importance of cyber security.”
He pointed out the “importance of paying attention to this issue to clarify the impact and extent of Iraq’s capabilities in confronting cyber breaches because it involves a large framework where we needed focus from cyber security specialists to know how to confront developers or hackers.”
In this regard, the European Union’s cybersecurity advisor, Mohammed Baqer Al-Shawki, said, “The symposium is part of several activities and the issue is too big to be resolved in a symposium or gathering, but such symposiums and activities in which experts in the field of cybersecurity participate are important and necessary.”
He added, “The presence of more than one seminar and activities on the long term contributes to achieving what is required, developing the system, and confronting violations.”
