BOLZANO. Il Hackhofer bakery in Soprabolzanowith six stores in the South Tyrolean capital, is introducing Saturdays off from work both in the stores and in production. “We are convinced that this is the right time to look to the future with greater confidence. This could also have a positive effect on the recruitment of qualified workers,” says owner Andreas Hackhofer.

What was initially pitched as Pilot project in the summer months is now set to become permanent. “It is our responsibility as an employer to create working conditions that meet both the individual needs of our employees and the changes in society,” explains Hackhofer. “We want to set an example: Flexible and humane working models are possible in skilled trades as in other sectors,” he continues. “This is particularly important to secure a skilled workforce and to keep craft trades attractive as a career option for future generations.”

Hackhofer admits: “This decision was not an easy one for us, as the reactions of our regular customers were uncertain. Our customers have responded very positively and have shown great respect for our decision. We would like to thank everyone for this.” “Reducing pressure at work, especially in physically demanding professions such as baking, is a step towards a fairer and healthier working environment, which in the long term benefits society as a whole,” Hackhofer concludes.
