The prize money for the Women’s T20 World Cup has been doubled. The total amount of prize money for the 2024 season has been fixed at 79 lakh 58 thousand 80 dollars (Tk 95 crore 12 lakh). Which is double than the 2023 season. As a percentage that has increased by 225%. The men’s World Cup prize money is also the same. Through this equality was brought to women and men in prize money.
The champion team of the Women’s World Cup, which starts next month, will get $2.34 million (about Tk 28 crore). Which is 134 percent more than the prize money of the champion team of 2023 season. Australian girls won $1 million (about 12 crore rupees) in the previous tournament.
The prize money for the runners-up team has also been increased by 134 percent. The runner-up team will get $1.17 million (about Tk 14 crore) this time. The semi-final team will get 6 lakh 65 thousand dollars (about 8 crore taka). Which is almost three times than the 2023 season.
Teams will get $31,154 for each win in the group stage. Which is 78 percent more than the previous season. 17 thousand 500 dollars was paid for each victory in the group stage of the 2023 season.
Not only that, the teams that will leave from the group stage will also get at least 1 lakh 12 thousand 500 dollars. In that case, ten teams will receive $1.125 million. The fifth to eighth teams will each receive $270,000. And the ninth to tenth teams will get 1 lakh 35 thousand dollars.
The world cricket governing body ICC has increased the prize money mainly for the development of women’s cricket and to advance women’s cricket.
The 2024 T20 World Cup will be held from October 3. It will end on October 20. A total of 10 teams will participate in two groups in this tournament. Group A includes Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. And in ‘B’ group – Bangladesh, England, Scotland, South Africa and West Indies.
