Chung Mong-gyu and Hong Myung-bo scheduled to appear at the National Assembly on the 24th
Jin Jong-oh (45), a member of the People Power Party and former national shooting team member, said, “The Korea Football Association (KFA) has begun its organized cover-up,” and warned of a strong response, saying, “They will definitely pay the price.”
On the 19th, Rep. Jin Jong-oh criticized through his SNS, “Is it normal that the key figures, including KFA President Chung Mong-gyu and Coach Hong Myung-bo, are consistently silent and showing an irresponsible attitude despite being scheduled to appear as witnesses at the National Assembly?”
The KFA is suspected of failing to ensure fairness and transparency in the process of appointing Hong Myung-bo as national team coach.
Fans are so dissatisfied that they boo the national team at home games and are demanding that Chairman Jeong resign. As the controversy grew, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism recently directly audited the KFA.
Chairman Jeong and Director Hong are scheduled to appear as witnesses at the National Assembly Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee’s current affairs inquiry on the 24th, five days later.
Rep. Jin Jong-oh claimed that the KFA has caused controversy but has not responded appropriately.
He said, “KFA is enjoying a vacation until Friday (the 20th) using the excuse of its foundation anniversary, and is not responding to requests for materials for the current affairs inquiry at the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee on the 24th.”
In fact, on the 19th, the Football Association building where the KFA is located was tightly locked and the lights were turned off.
In response, Rep. Jin Jong-oh raised the level of his remarks, saying, “Those who deceive the people will definitely pay the price,” and foreshadowed a strong response.
Meanwhile, on the 10th, Rep. Jin Jong-oh revealed, “I received a report of controversy over the fairness of the appointment of coach Hong Myung-bo through the ‘National Reporting Center on Corruption in the Sports World,’” and “There seems to be a problem with the appointment process. However, there are currently some insufficient parts in the related content, so we are conducting additional research.”
