The head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, indicated that he “reviewed the statement of US President Joe Biden regarding the situation in Sudan, in which he called on the Council and the Rapid Support Movement to sit at the negotiating table.”

Al-Burhan stressed that “the Khartoum government is open to all constructive efforts aimed at ending the war.”

“On behalf of the Sudanese government and people, I welcome President Biden’s expression of concern and appreciate the United States’ support for humanitarian efforts inside Sudan and in neighboring countries,” Burhan said in a statement. “We share his deep concern about the human cost of the ongoing conflict, which has brought untold pain and hardship to the people of Sudan.”

“The Sudanese government remains fully determined and committed to ending the suffering of our citizens, and we are determined to continue our efforts to bring the current conflict to a swift and decisive end, and to ensure the restoration of peace, security and stability throughout the country. Our goal is not simply to end the violence, but to do so in a way that lays the foundation for a sustainable peace, addresses the root causes of instability and promotes unity and reconciliation among all Sudanese in the long term,” he added.

“President Biden’s remarks about the RSF militia’s systematic and widespread attacks on El Fasher reflect only a fraction of the atrocities committed by this criminal militia in other parts of Sudan. The Sudanese Armed Forces are steadfast in their commitment to the principles of international humanitarian law and the customs of war, including the protection of civilians. Our actions are deeply rooted in Sudan’s cultural and moral values, which emphasize the protection of civilian lives and the preservation of our nation’s rich heritage. In stark contrast, the actions of the RSF militia demonstrate a complete disregard for human life, civilian infrastructure, and Sudan’s ancient cultural heritage, dating back to the Kushite and Meroitic civilizations. The international community must not only condemn these crimes, but also hold accountable states that continue to support and enable these militias,” he added.

According to the media Sudanese“The Sudanese government remains open to all constructive efforts aimed at ending this devastating war,” Al-Burhan said in the statement. “We stand ready to work with all international partners to seek a peaceful solution that alleviates the suffering of our people and puts Sudan on the path to security, stability, the rule of law, and the democratic transfer of power. I look forward to deepening these discussions with U.S. officials during my upcoming participation in the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly next week.”

Yesterday, the US President said in a statement: “I call on the belligerents responsible for the suffering of the Sudanese people – the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces – to withdraw their forces, facilitate unhindered humanitarian access, and re-engage in negotiations to end this war.”

The fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has been ongoing since mid-April 2023, resulting in the deaths of about 13,100 people, while the total number of displaced people in Sudan has reached about 7.9 million people, and about 2.1 million people to neighboring countries, according to United Nations data.
