Jehanabad: Two people including a woman were killed and another youth was injured after being hit by a speeding government vehicle in Paras Bigha area of Jehanabad district of Bihar on Friday. According to police, the deceased have been identified as Karan Kumar and Dhamanti Devi. The injured youth’s name is Vikram Kumar. Police said that the driver of the vehicle Dharmendra Kumar was trying to flee from the spot after the accident but the villagers caught him and tied him to a tree and beat him up.

On receiving information, police reached the village and rescued the driver from the clutches of the mob and took him into custody. Jehanabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Arvind Pratap Singh said that police had received information that a speeding vehicle hit two people — Karan Kumar and Vikram Kumar — in Paras Bigha area this morning and then hit another woman while trying to escape from the spot. All three were rushed to a nearby government hospital, where Karan Kumar and Dhamanti Devi died. Vikram is being treated at a government hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
The villagers caught
The SP said the driver of the vehicle, who was trying to flee after hitting the woman, was caught by the villagers and tied to a tree and beaten. He said the police reached the spot, rescued the driver and arrested him. An officer of Paras Bigha police station told reporters that the vehicle involved in the accident was a government vehicle. The officer said a case has been registered and further action is being taken.
