‘Veteran 2’ succeeded in dominating the box office during the Chuseok holiday when there was no significant competition.

According to the Korea Business Information System (KOBIS), 4.66 million people watched movies in theaters during the Chuseok holidays from the 14th to the 18th. This means that an average of 930,000 people visited theaters each day. This is about 1.8 times higher than the average of 520,000 people who visited theaters each day during the Chuseok holidays last year.

‘Veteran 2’ dominated the box office. It attracted 3.93 million viewers during the five-day Chuseok holiday. It accounted for 84.5% of the total number of viewers who visited theaters during the same period, meaning that 8 out of 10 viewers watched ‘Veteran 2’. In particular, ‘Veteran 2’, which was released on the 13th, recorded 4.45 million cumulative viewers as of the 18th.

In the film industry, there is an assessment that other distributors postponed their releases to avoid competition with ‘Veteran 2’ due to the fierce competition during the Chuseok holiday last year, which all failed at the box office.

As of the 18th, the seat occupancy rate (the percentage of seats assigned to the film out of all theater seats) for ‘Veteran 2’ is 71.4%. It is higher than other movies, but lower than ‘The Outlaws 4’, which had a seat occupancy rate of 85.9% in the first week after its release in April, causing controversy over screen monopolization. The seat sales rate, which is the percentage of occupied seats that were actually sold and filled, is 38.2% for ‘Veteran 2’, which is lower than the first Saturday seat sales rate of 47.5% for ‘The Outlaws 4’.

‘Veteran 2’ Naver audience rating is 6.61, which is lower than the rating of 9.24 for the first part ‘Veteran’ (2019), and the audience response is also somewhat mixed. Although it was successful in the early box office due to the Chuseok holiday, there are also cautious opinions on whether it will achieve over 10 million viewers like the first part.
