He was a popular show host and will probably still delight fans today. But does Hape Kerkeling even want to host a TV show again?
Actor, author and comedian Hape Kerkeling once welcomed people to the ESC preliminary round or to the Golden Camera. He also hosted several of his own shows, such as “Total Normal” on Das Erste or “Die 70er Show” on RTL. For this he received the German Television Award for the best presentation in the entertainment category in 2003. Many other shows followed.
In 2014, Kerkeling withdrew from public life. After eight years of abstinence and only sporadic appearances and engagements, he returned to the screen last autumn. A remake of the 1990s TV film “Club Las Piranjas” aired in October as a mini-series on RTL with him in the lead role. Kerkeling also recently announced the return of his cult character Horst Schlämmer to the big screen in 2025.
However, a show comeback is currently out of the question for the 59-year-old, he made clear on Friday in the talk show “3nach9”. “I don’t plan to do it,” explained Kerkeling, adding: “But I had a nightmare three days ago that I was hosting a Saturday night show with Heidi Klum. Who knows.”
Most recently, Kerkeling devoted himself to writing his new book. “Give me some time” will be published on September 25th. In it, the author talks about his childhood in the 1970s and the history of his family, among other things. The TV star did genealogical research and, according to his own account, discovered that he was a great-grandson of the English King Edward VII (1841-1910).
He used the coronavirus pandemic to first do a DNA test. This aroused his curiosity because it revealed that he has Dutch, British, Polish and Italian relatives. He also once received a letter from the Bohemian town where his grandmother comes from. In it, a lady told him that his grandmother was a daughter of the English King Edward VII. Her birth certificate stated that she was “illegitimate”.
