Strange cancellation of a game in the Regionalliga Nordost: The players of FSV Zwickau were stuck on the A9. At least they had food with them.

FSV Zwickau was actually supposed to play against Viktoria Berlin on Friday. The game in the regional league was scheduled to take place at the Lichterfelde Stadium, and the guests had made their way there in good time.

But then, on the way, the first message came to the fans: “Currently, nothing is happening on the way to Berlin! Full closure on the A9. Given the current situation, the punctual kick-off is more than questionable,” the club posted on the X platform. There had been an accident between Wiedemar and Halle (Saale), and all lanes were closed.

In the next update, the players made a virtue out of necessity and enjoyed themselves: the team staff had spontaneously set up the food they had brought with them as a buffet on the guard rail. “First improvise and be patient,” wrote the club. The use of the hard shoulder had previously been approved.

But in the end they had to give up. “Our away game at Viktoria Berlin cannot take place this evening. Our team is still stuck in a full closure on the A9 near Wiedemar. It is not yet clear when the game can be rescheduled…”, the club reported to fans. One commentator wrote underneath that the players should have arrived earlier, another suggested taking the train next time – but this was accompanied by a laughing smiley.

Zwickau is currently in 12th place in the Regionalliga Nordost. The club has been promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga twice in its history. The club, which was originally founded in 1912, has been in the fourth division since 2023. The head coach is Rico Schmitt, who previously held this position in Meppen and at Kickers Offenbach.
