Measuring science skills for ninth graders

This will not be an external assessment and in order not to create stress on the students, the results at the student’s request and at the teacher’s discretion will be entered in lieu of a current entry level assessment, he added.
With the tests including tasks to measure skills in the field of science
sciences, the teachers of the respective subjects will be assisted in setting and
the evaluation of such type of tasks and various platforms will be tested, which in
future could support the training, preparation and conduct of
different types of exams and tests. There will also be a focus on
key for the international study PISA 2025 topics such as Energy, Green Energy, Greenhouse Effect, Ozone Hole, Recycling, and students will get closer to the type of tasks and the environment in which some of them will work during the real study.
In addition, the MES will continue its efforts to introduce more practical
tasks in the tests of all upcoming exams from the national external assessments, Minister Tsokov also said.
Data for the beginning of the new academic year were presented during the meeting of the Branch Council. All schools and kindergartens are provided with educational kits. For the beginning of the 2024/2025 academic year, over 9,500,000 educational books, textbooks, study sets and study aids have been delivered to educational institutions, which are free for children. BGN 122 million were allocated for them, and for the first time over 300,000 students from 8th to 12th grade were included.
It was also reported that as of September 15, 2024, the system of preschool and school education is provided with pedagogical specialists. No information has been received about a shortage of teachers, and the process of filling jobs is currently underway.
According to data submitted by the regional administrations of education for the whole country
vacancies are 0.3% of all teaching positions. Of the total number of
pedagogical specialists aged up to 35 years inclusive is 13,889, which is
15%.
During the meeting, the possibilities of increasing the salary in the system were also discussed. Minister Galin Tsokov expressed his gratitude to the social partners for the fruitful joint work and the good dialogue, and they, in turn, expressed satisfaction with the calm in the system.
