The 84-year-old sustained injuries in a fall and had to be treated in hospital. There is now an update on Margrethe’s condition.
The former Danish monarch, Queen Margrethe II, has been released from hospital after a fall. The 84-year-old is now back home at Fredensborg Palace, the Danish royal family announced.
The mother of Danish King Frederik X sustained an injury to her cervical vertebra and a broken bone in her left hand on Wednesday. “As a result, her left hand is now in a plaster cast and the Queen will have to wear a stiff neck brace in the coming months,” the statement said.
Margrethe is in a good mood and is doing well considering the circumstances. However, she will need a longer recovery period. Her participation in events has therefore been cancelled for the foreseeable future.
The former regent had left the throne to her son at the beginning of the year after 52 years. She justified her abdication by saying, among other things, that she was worried about her health. Margrethe, who has retained her title of queen despite her resignation, has been using a walking stick for public appearances for some time.
