Deputy Speaker of Parliament discusses with the Political Prisoners Foundation amending its law

Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Shakhawan Abdullah Ahmed, discussed with the Political Prisoners Foundation, on Thursday, amending its law.

The media office of the Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives said in a statement received by the (INA): “The Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Shakhawan Abdullah Ahmed, held a meeting this evening with the head of the Political Prisoners Foundation and the advisor to the State Council, in the presence of the heads of the Kurdish blocs and the Parliamentary Committee of Martyrs, Victims and Political Prisoners; to discuss amending the law of the Political Prisoners Foundation.”
He added, “During the meeting, the legislative procedures and legal drafting were discussed regarding amending the institution’s law in a way that achieves justice to compensate those affected in all Iraqi governorates from political prisoners who were harmed during the time of the defunct regime and to include political prisoners in Halabja as mentioned in the provisions of the law, such as political prisoners and detainees in Rafha.”
The Vice President stressed, “The importance of continuing cooperation and efforts between the Political Prisoners Foundation and the parliamentary committees to complete the draft amendment to the Foundation’s law in a way that guarantees the protection of the rights of political prisoners in the Kurdistan Region and their compensation, as is the case with their peers in all governorates, to lift the harm and do justice to this segment that has made great sacrifices and suffered for many years.”
