Wild mussels available only about 26 days a year

Yeongsando Island, which can be reached by taking a speedboat from Mokpo, Jeollanam-do, for 2 hours, and then taking another boat from Heuksando and going 4km east! Yeongsando, part of Dadohaehaesang National Park, is full of precious treasures as well as beautiful scenery, such as abalone, rock seaweed, turtle shells, and sea urchins, and various natural seafood! The most precious seafood among them is the natural mussels that can only be found in early fall. You can find natural mussels growing on the rocks for only 26 days a year! You can only harvest them three times a month, or six times if the weather is good. And you can only harvest them for about two hours when the rocks are above the water, and it is said that this is thanks to the efforts of Yeongsando residents to prevent the extinction of natural mussels. Although it is only two hours, we follow the struggles of people who have to climb up the rough rocks, fight the rough waves, and harvest them with only their bodies and spears.

Herbalists struggle to pick autumn wild mushrooms in the mountains at an altitude of 1000m

At this time of year, there are people who head to the mountains to find another treasure. People who go hiking in search of autumn mushrooms, climbing mountains over 1,000 meters above sea level. It is said that wild mushrooms are the tastiest and most nutritious during this time of the year, when summer is changing to autumn. Climbing high and rugged mountains to collect autumn mushrooms is a must! You have to climb up and down the mountain for over 10 hours a day, starting early in the morning. In order to find the precious autumn mushrooms, you have to sweat and even encounter wasps and poisonous snakes. After a long hike, the mushroom you finally find is the borassari mushroom, which is the best of the wild mushrooms to collect in autumn, along with pine mushrooms and lingzhi mushrooms! It is named for its similar shape to a broom, and it is characterized by growing in a single line on high mountains. Along with the purple oyster mushrooms, we also encountered orange magpie mushrooms and black magpie mushrooms that can only be found in the fall. Even in the midst of rough and rugged mountain climbing, we can smile thanks to the precious treasures nature gives us! We follow the daily lives of herbalists who work hard to provide precious autumn wild mushrooms.
