World Bank to continue cooperation in various sectors: Finance Adviser

He said that various issues including budget support, development of our health and energy sectors, import of food and fertilizers, achieving self-sufficiency in food, post-flood rehabilitation, solving the Rohingya problem have been fruitfully discussed.

On Thursday (September 19), a 7-member delegation led by World Bank Regional Vice-President for South Asia, Martin Riser, who is visiting Dhaka, paid a courtesy call on the Finance and Trade Advisor at his office in the Ministry of Finance. Later, the adviser said these things during a discussion with journalists.

At that time, Abdouli Sikh, Country Director of World Bank assigned to Bangladesh and Bhutan, Ms. Gail Martin, Bangladesh Operations Manager, etc. were present.

He said that the World Bank has assured assistance in backing the country’s reforms. Reforms are underway in our backing sector. Here they (World Bank) will help.

The finance advisor said, health and energy sector, food, flood and support of Rohingya refugees were discussed. They responded fairly positively to the proposals we made to them.

He said, they will have no qualms about technical assistance and other matters. Secondly, reforms are going on in our backing sector here they will help. In particular, the issue of increasing entrepreneurship in the private sector, looking at opportunities in their investment was discussed. They are satisfied with the reforms we are making.

Meanwhile, the World Bank will provide 2 billion dollars in assistance to Bangladesh in the current fiscal year, said Martin Riser, vice president of the organization’s South Asia region.
