In the month of July, mobile recharge plans were made expensive by telecom companies. Private telecom companies like Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea arbitrarily increased the recharge plans by 20 to 25 percent. Mobile users were angry with this increase. This led to a boycott campaign against Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea on social media. The effect of this campaign is visible in TRAI’s July 2024 report.
BSNL became the first choice
If the report is to be believed, after the expensive recharge, a large number of mobile users have bid farewell to Jio and have turned directly to BSNL. A large number of mobile users were angry with the expensive recharge of Jio Airtel and Vi. Angry customers have ported their mobile numbers to BSNL. If TRAI’s report is to be believed, in July, government telecom company BSNL is the only telecom company whose user base has increased.
29 lakh new customers joined BSNL
If we talk about the figures, this month more than 29 lakh mobile users have joined BSNL. During the same period, around 16 lakh users left Bharti Airtel. This is the biggest number till date, when such a large number of mobile users have left Airtel network. Similarly, 14 lakh users of Vodafone Idea left, while Reliance Jio had to suffer the loss of 758 thousand mobile users.
Decline in the number of mobile users
Let us tell you that there has been a decline in the number of overall mobile users in the month of July. The total number of mobile users in the country was 1,205.64 million in June, which has come down to 1,205.17 million in July.
