Deputy calls for health census in prisons

It is essential to keep health censuses up to date in the Detention Centers to ensure better care for people deprived of their liberty, considered the deputy of the Green Ecologist Party, Rebeca Peralta.

From the Local Congressthe pevemista presented an initiative to reform the Health Law of the Mexico City to prepare health censuses in penitentiary centers with a gender perspective and identification of gender y sexuality to ensure health protection, including medical treatment when required.
It is proposed to add section X to article 1, reform section X of article 11 and the first paragraph of article 144, of the Health Law.

According to Inegi, at the end of 2023, there were 233,277 people in prison in Mexico, of which around 94 percent are men, he said.

“When depriving a person of liberty, the State… must fulfill the positive obligation to provide each person with the necessary medical assistance, for being the guarantor of their safety,” he added.

Peralta recalled that during the current administration the “Comprehensive Plan for Strengthening the Penitentiary System”, in order to combat the deficiencies that currently exist in the application of reliable and updated censuses on people who live deprived of their freedom.
