The second place in the world with 12.3% of the world’s total export of birch boards was China, and the 3rd place with 6.7% was Canada. According to the total export volume of birch boards, Estonia was in the 4th place in the world (12.1 million euros, which made up 5.2% of the total world export), and Latvia in the 5th place (9.7 million euros – 4.2% of the global export) ), ahead of Finland, which remained in 6th place in the world. The world’s top ten exporters of birch boards were completed by Lithuania, which exported birch boards for 3.78 million euros in 2023, and Lithuania’s share in the world birch export market was 1.6%.

When calculating the export income of birch boards per inhabitant in 2023, Estonia was in the first place in the world with 8.85 euros. The second place was Latvia (5.18 euros per inhabitant), and the third place was Lithuania (1.32 euros per inhabitant). Finland, with 1.18 euros per capita in 2023, was in fourth place in the world. It was followed by Russia, Canada, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland and Austria.

Although Latvia’s conditions are not particularly suitable for oak growth, Latvia is in a very high position in the world in the production and export of oak planks.

According to the total export of oak planks in 2023, the world leader was the USA, which exported production for 674 million euros, which accounted for 36% of the world’s total export. The second place in the world with 9.6% of the world’s total export was Croatia, and the 3rd place with 8.6% was France. Lithuania, with 15 million euros in exports of oak planks in 2023 (0.8% of the world’s total exports), was in 19th place in the world, while Latvia, with 4.7 million euros in exports (0.25% of the world’s total exports), was 23rd. place in the world. Estonia, on the other hand, was in 37th place in the world, and Estonia’s share in the world’s total export of oak planks was only 0.03 percent. Calculating the export income of oak planks per capita in 2023, Croatia was in first place in the world with 46.74 euros. It was followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina (€12.54 per capita), Slovenia (€10.04 per capita), Slovakia (€6.74 per capita) and Austria (€6.06 per capita). Lithuania with 5.27 euros per inhabitant was in 6th place in the world, while Latvia with 2.51 euros per inhabitant completed the world’s top ten. On the other hand, a completely different picture can be observed when looking at the export of planed softwood boards and boards per capita, Estonia is the absolute and undisputed leader in this group of goods. The second place in the world with 11.5% of the world’s total export was Chile, and the 3rd place with 210 million euros of exports was Estonia (10% of the world’s total export). According to the export volume of planed softwood boards and boards in 2023, Latvia with an export of 26.5 million euros (1.26% of the world’s total export) was in 19th place in the world, while Lithuania with an export of 8.2 million euros (0. 4% of the world’s total exports) was in 30th place in the world.

Evaluating the export income from the export of planed softwood boards and boards per capita in 2023, Estonia was the absolute world leader (153.74 euros per capita). In 2023, Latvia took the 2nd place in the world (14.06 euros per inhabitant) and was more than 10 times behind the Estonian indicator. Chile, Finland, Austria, New Zealand, Poland, Sweden and Denmark also had a very high export specialization of planed softwood boards and boards.
