FIFA has announced the teams that have already qualified for the new Club World Cup, which will be held in 2025.

10 UEFA teams, 3 from CONMEBOL, 3 from CONCACAF, 2 from the African Confederation, 2 from Asia and 1 from Oceania are the 21 clubs confirmed so far for this ecumenical event that will take place in the USA and which will feature the participation of 32 teams from the six Confederations.

Three more CONMEBOL spots remain to be confirmed, which will come from the current Libertadores champion and the two best-placed teams in the South American club rankings.

Independiente del Valle, Barcelona and Liga de Quito are the Ecuadorian teams that are fighting to qualify for this historic competition, although the chances of playing in this tournament are very difficult.

For one of these teams to qualify for the Club World Cup, they would have to win the 2024 Copa Libertadores or qualify through the CONMEBOL ranking.

Independiente del Valle is the Ecuadorian club with the best chance of qualifying according to the CONMEBOL ranking, occupying the 13th position with 41 points. Barcelona is in the 14th position with 40 points and Liga de Quito is in the 36th position with 14 points.

In order for IDV or Barcelona (the best placed in this ranking) to compete in the 2025 Club World Cup, they must surpass teams such as River Plate, Nacional of Uruguay and Olimpia, which are better placed in this classification.

It should be noted that clubs will only be able to score points in the 2024 Copa Libertadores, which is why IDV and Barcelona will have to reach the final stages of this tournament to beat the aforementioned teams.
