a minute and a half of Michele Placido’s film waiting for the premiere

by time news

Ninety seconds on the 01 Distribution YouTube channel: a scene, the first ever that can be seen while waiting for the trailer that will be published the first week of October, in which we see Fabrizio Bentivoglio in the role of Pirandello and Federica Luna Vincenti who plays Marta Abba. A minute and a half that outlines the stylistic figure of the film very well, the intensity of the protagonists, the costumes and above all the relationship between the “master” and his muse: intense and beautiful. Luigi Pirandello is therefore ready to relive on the big screen with “Eterno visionario”, the film by Michele Placido that was shot in the fall of 2023 in Rome and abroad, including in Agrigento, in the Valley of the Temples and at the Pirandello theater. It will be released in all cinemas on November 7. The clip can be seen clicking here.

In the meantime, some evenings are being planned with the live cast that will greet the spectators in the theater. Among the various stops there could also be Agrigento and Palermo which, presumably, should be placed on the weekend of November 8-10, certainly the most important one because they will be the very first days of programming in theaters.

Meanwhile, at the official press conference of the 2024 edition of the Rome Film Festival, scheduled from October 16 to 28 under the direction of Paola Malanga for the third consecutive year, the presence of “Eterno visionario” was confirmed, which will be screened, in world premiere, on Saturday October 19 in the “Grand public” section. The film lasts 112 minutes. The cast includes Fabrizio Bentivoglio, Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, Federica Luna Vincenti, Giancarlo Commare, Aurora Giovinazzo, Michelangelo Placido, Ute Lemper.

From the sulphur mines of the most backward Sicily to Stockholm, where he won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1934: Luigi Pirandello’s life is made up of extremes that fascinate the film’s director, Michele Placido. Inspired by Matteo Collura’s biography “Il gioco delle parti” (Longanesi), he tells the story of the hell of family life – his wife Antonietta Portulano, played by Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, locked up in a mental asylum – of the author of “Six Characters in Search of an Author” and his triumphs. But also the protests and scandals of the stage, the dream of an absolute love with Marta Abba and the controversial relationship with fascism. Placido carves out the part of Saul Colin (Pirandello’s agent and collaborator) and finds in Fabrizio Bentivoglio the interpreter of an artist who was able to understand the dissolution of the identity of twentieth-century man and describe that cage of simulations that is society.

“Eternal Visionary” is, in short, a journey into the emotional depths of the author – Nobel Prize winner for literature – of a scandalous, subversive and too modern theatre for bourgeois respectability. An iconic symbol of his time, at the same time very current and universal, capable of interpreting the contradictions and torments of the man of yesterday and today. An immense artist, a relentless, eternal visionary in fact: a genius capable of transforming his own unhappiness into art.
