Dialogue Seminar: The Role of Media in Confronting Economic Crises in Libya

The General Authority for Monitoring Media Content, in cooperation with the Transparency Association for the Development of Civil Society, organized a dialogue seminar today, Saturday, in the capital, Tripoli, on media discourse and its role in confronting economic crises, with the “Central Bank of Libya” crisis as a model.

According to the Authority’s official website, the symposium aimed to diagnose the Libyan economic situation, the repercussions of the Central Bank crisis on the citizen, and control media content during periods of economic crises in a manner consistent with the principles and ethics of the profession.

The symposium discussed, in its economic axis, which was presented by banking expert Dr. Nouri Al-Gharari and academic professor Youssef Yakhlef, issues related to the economic crisis, the current situation of the Central Bank of Libya, the implications of changing the governor, as well as the future vision for the value of the local currency and the stability of the Libyan economy.

The media section, presented by the Authority’s advisor Reda Al-Hadi, university professor Masoud Al-Tayeb, and journalist Mohammed Bin Mullahem, also discussed the evaluation of media performance in confronting the economic crisis, the role of the monitoring authority in self-adjustment during the period of the economic crisis, and the effects resulting from the absence of specialized media in the disruption of information related to economic affairs.

The symposium was attended by the Chairman of the Authority, Jalal Othman, the Chairman of the General Authority for Press, Abdul Razzaq Al-Dahesh, and representatives of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, in addition to the participation of academics, university professors, economic specialists, and media professionals representing a number of media institutions.
