The United Nations General Assembly called for an end to the Zionist occupation of the Palestinian territories within “12 months” and called for sanctions on the entity.

The resolution, which has been discussed since Tuesday by 193 member states of the United Nations, is based on an advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice in July at the request of the General Assembly, in which it declared that the Zionist occupation of territories of Palestine since 1967 that it is “illegal” and that the entity is “obliged to put an end to it… as soon as possible”.
The resolution, which was adopted by a majority of 124 votes to 14 against (including Israel, the United States, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Argentina) and 43 abstentions, “demands” that the entity “end soon with his illegal. presence” in the Palestinian territories “within 12 months at most from the adoption of this law.” The decision only specified a period of six months after the first wording of the text.
The Palestinian mission to the United Nations was pleased to accept a “historic” resolution, as he wrote on the X platform.
The European Union’s foreign policy representative welcomed the “important” decision, assuming that its adoption reaffirms the Palestinian right to self-determination.
For his part, Louis Charbonneau of Human Rights Watch said, “Israel must immediately listen to the request of the great majority of the member states of the United Nations to respect the historic decision” issued by the International Court of Justice, adding its support pointed to an arms embargo on Israel.
