Football Association reveals the date and place of the Iraqi national team’s gathering in preparation for the Asian Championship

/ The Iraqi Football Association announced on Tuesday that the beginning of next year will be the date for the Iraqi national team to gather in preparation for the Asian Championship, which will be held in Qatar early next year.

Football Association member Firas Bahr Al-Ulum told Agency, “The association, in agreement with our national team coach, the Spaniard Jesus Casas, set January 2 as the date for the national team’s gathering.”

He added that “the gathering will be directly in Abu Dhabi,” ruling out “any gathering in Iraq before heading to the Emirates.”

He pointed out that “the Iraqi national team will face the South Korean national team in a friendly match in Abu Dhabi on January 6 on the sidelines of the gathering in Abu Dhabi,” indicating that “the Iraqi national team will head to Qatar after the friendly match against South Korea in preparation for the Asian Championship, which will be held in Qatar from January 12 to February 10, 2024.”

The Asian Football Confederation and the Local Organising Committee decided to hold the tournament in eight stadiums, including six stadiums that participated in hosting the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, namely Al Janoub Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium, Ahmed bin Ali Stadium, Al Thumama Stadium, Education City Stadium, Khalifa International Stadium, and Jassim bin Hamad Stadium and Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
