Speaking at the opening of the 1st session of the Morocco-Malawi Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired with his Malawian counterpart, Nancy Tembo, Mr. Bourita stressed that the Kingdom will spare no effort to support its partners, such as the Republic of Malawi, in order to meet the socio-economic challenges that Lilongwe considers as priorities.
Welcoming the holding of this first Joint Cooperation Commission which will serve as an executive tool to further broaden and deepen relations between Malawi and Morocco, the Minister indicated that this session opens a new chapter in relations between the two countries, as well as new horizons for their multi-sectoral and economic partnership.
Mr. Bourita recalled that the signing of the cooperation roadmap for the period 2022-2024 made it possible to strengthen bilateral cooperation in mutually beneficial areas, namely education and training, technical cooperation, agriculture, trade and investment, security as well as the exchange of visits.
Furthermore, the minister noted that the esteem and respect that characterize the relations between the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and His Excellency President Lazarus Chakwera, play “a driving role” in promoting relations between Rabat and Lilongwe.
In this sense, Mr. Bourita stressed that His Majesty the King has always been a fervent defender of African co-development, co-prosperity and Afro-optimism, which overcome differences and focus on similarities, with the aim of uniting instead of dividing.
He also specified that the Kingdom of Morocco, under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI, has placed Africa at the center of its concerns and its foreign policy, by advocating a united South-South cooperation, based on inclusive socio-economic development, the preservation of peace and security and African integration.
This approach, he added, “consolidates the action of the Kingdom of Morocco for a bright and better continental future for the benefit of its African brothers”, recalling, in this regard, that the new visionary Royal Initiative to facilitate access for landlocked countries in the Sahel to the Atlantic Ocean is a major project, with the main objective of “regionalizing” growth.
Thanks to the common will of the two countries, he continued, remarkable achievements have been made in recent years, including the opening of the Consulate General of Malawi in Laayoune, the Embassy of Morocco in Lilongwe, as well as the Embassy of the Republic of Malawi in Rabat last December.
In the context of mutual solidarity, the Minister did not fail to welcome Malawi’s firm and constant support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Morocco over its entire territory, including the Sahara, for the efforts of the UN as the exclusive framework for achieving a political, realistic, practical and lasting solution to this regional dispute and for the Moroccan autonomy plan presented in 2007 as the only solution to resolve this conflict.
“Morocco and Malawi, driven by the same principles of solidarity, peace and fraternity, share converging visions on regional and global issues,” noted Mr. Bourita, welcoming the major role played by the Republic of Malawi within the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and its commitment to peace and stability in the sub-region and in Africa.”
