President Yoon Seok-yeol’s approval rating for his state affairs has rebounded again after four weeks, recovering to the 30% range. In terms of party approval ratings, the Democratic Party of Korea was ahead of the People Power Party, but the gap narrowed to within the margin of error in just one week.

In a poll conducted by polling firm Realmeter from the 19th to the 20th on 1,001 eligible voters aged 18 or older for the third week of September at the request of the Energy Economy Newspaper, the positive evaluation response rate for President Yoon rose 3.3 percentage points from the previous week to 30.3%.

President Yoon recorded his lowest approval rating since taking office in a survey last week, but managed to rebound within a week.

The negative evaluation was 66.2%, down 2.5%p from the previous week. The difference between positive and negative evaluations was 35.9%p, outside the margin of error.

A Realmeter official assessed that, “Amid diplomatic moves such as the ‘Czech nuclear power plant sales diplomacy,’ the downward pressure on approval ratings has somewhat weakened as factors such as changes in the terrain of the opposition party’s offensive, such as the realization of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung’s judicial risks, continue to occur.”

He continued, “In the case of the ’emergency medical gap,’ it came to an end without facing any major risks during the holiday, and the negative public opinion that followed seems to have died down,” and analyzed that, “The risk of internal strife and controversy within the Korean Medical Association, such as the ‘petition for a vote of no confidence in the Korean Medical Association president’ and the ‘controversy over crude criticism of the Korean Nurses Association,’ were also factors that once again stirred up negative opinions about the political situation.”

In a party approval rating survey conducted on 1,001 adults on the 19th and 20th, the People Power Party recorded 35.2%, up 2.2%p from the previous week. The Democratic Party recorded 39.2%, down 0.45%p from the previous week. The gap in approval ratings between the two major parties narrowed to 4.0%p, within the margin of error in just one week.

The Fatherland Innovation Party recorded 9.1%, down 1.6%p from the previous week, followed by △nonpartisan group 8.9% (down 0.9%p from the previous week), △Reform New Party 4.5% (up 0.3%p), △Progressive Party 1.2% (up 0.3%p), and △Other parties 1.9% (up 0.1%p).

A Realmeter official analyzed, “The approval ratings of the Democratic Party of Korea and the People Power Party continue to show a standoff within the margin of error amid the repeated treadmill of ‘vote-veto’,” and “The People Power Party’s approval rating rose compared to the previous week amid the legislative offensive led by the opposition party, such as the special prosecution of Ms. Kim Kun-hee and Chae Hae-byeong and the passage of controversial bills such as the local currency law.”

He then evaluated, “In a situation where the opposition party’s loss index has risen due to the heightened judicial risk of Representative Lee Jae-myung, it is necessary to examine whether the party will take the initiative in changing the political situation through the ‘Yoon Han meeting’.”

Meanwhile, this survey was conducted using a wireless (97%) and landline (3%) automatic response method and a random phone call method using a randomly generated sampling frame. The sampling error of the approval rating for the president’s state administration performance is ±3.1%p at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate is 2.7%. The sampling error of the approval rating for political parties is ±3.1%p at a 95% confidence level, and the response rate is 2.7%.
