Mr. Hammouchi takes part in the 8th INTERPOL meeting of MENA police chiefs

Mr. Hammouchi led the Moroccan delegation participating in the work of this important security meeting which brought together the heads of security and police services in the MENA region, as well as from the Comoros, Djibouti, Somalia, Sudan and Mauritania, indicates a press release from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).

This meeting allowed the Kingdom’s national security services to highlight their experience in combating new forms of crime at the regional level and to examine emerging security challenges in the region, including the fight against organized crime, financial flows from hacking, threats of online recruitment and radicalization, financing through cryptocurrencies, the risks of terrorist attacks via drones, as well as atypical threats, added the same source.

Thus, the Moroccan delegation presented a comprehensive presentation on the sharing of experiences and information relating to the fight against cybercrime and its emerging forms, particularly in light of the growing threats linked to the misuse of new technologies for criminal or terrorist purposes.

The meeting was also marked by the presentation by INTERPOL of various solutions, IT applications and databases highlighting how the ICPO is responding to new threats and risks, through the development of the INTERPOL biometric platform, the assessment of the international criminal threat and the INTERPOL Analysis and Intelligence Network, in addition to the support and assistance mechanisms that INTERPOL is able to provide to member countries in terms of training and the fight against different forms of transnational crime.

On the sidelines of this meeting, Mr. Hammouchi had a meeting with the new director of INTERPOL’s Cybercrime Directorate, Neal Jetton, during which the two officials examined the projects and prospects for cooperation between Morocco and INTERPOL in the field of neutralization and the fight against risks linked to the use of technologies in criminal and terrorist projects.

Mr. Hammouchi also visited the INTERPOL Command and Coordination Center, located at the headquarters of the ICPO General Secretariat, the same source said, stressing that he discussed with its officials the mechanisms for strengthening cooperation in cross-border investigations and international prosecutions of persons wanted at the international level.

During this meeting, the Moroccan delegation also held bilateral and multilateral talks with INTERPOL officials and security and police services in the MENA region on ways to coordinate efforts to address security challenges and risks, according to a common and collective vision capable of monitoring the regional and international ramifications of organized crime and terrorism, the statement concluded.
