The Acting Minister of Oil and Gas, Khalifa Abdul Sadiq, participated in the activities of the GasTech 2024 Conference and Exhibition in Houston, Texas, during the period from September 17 to 20, 2024.
Discussions at the conference focused on the challenges of energy security and sustainability, where Abdel Sadek reviewed Libya’s strategies to increase oil and gas production capacity, stressing the increase in gas production rates to about 4 billion cubic feet per day within the next three to five years.
The Minister also stressed the importance of improving contracting patterns in Libya to attract international companies to invest, announcing the imminent launch of a licensing round to explore and develop gas and oil resources in Libya.
On the sidelines of the conference, Abdulsadeq held a series of bilateral meetings with international dignitaries, including Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt, CEO of US company ConocoPhillips, and CEO of Oman Integrated Gas Company, where insights and expertise in the field of energy and natural gas distribution were exchanged.
The Minister of Oil also discussed investment opportunities in Libya with the heads of international oil and gas companies, and announced a new round of exploration licenses, as companies showed great interest in investing in Libya due to its huge oil reserves, according to the ministry.
Abdel Sadek discussed with his Nigerian counterpart the possibility of implementing a project to establish a pipeline to transport gas from Nigeria to Europe via Libya.
