Thanks to the rulings to be the new government, the foreign affairs license is entrusted to a novice: Jean-Noël Barrot, 41 years old, who is not familiar with international conflicts and diplomacy. An economist by training, he joined the Quai d’Orsay seven months ago as Ministerial Representative for European Affairs. He was previously, from 2022, responsible for digital in the government of Élisabeth Borne.
A graduate of the HEC, the school where he also studied, Jean-Noël Barrot was first a specialist in economics, before entering politics in 2015, first as a faculty member of the Haute -Loire, then by the deputy nomination for Yvelines in 2017 under the MoDem government (center right) symbol.
Political involvement has been a family affair since his grandfather, Noël Barrot, was deputy of the MRP (Christian Democrat) for twenty years, under the Fourth Republic. After him, his father Jacques Barrot also had a political career, being an important person in the UDF. He was a Member of Parliament, Minister of Labour, then European Commissioner for Justice and Home Affairs between 2004 and 2009.
Rapid ascent
Jean-Noël Barrot followed in their footsteps by making rapid strides. Entering the government in 2022, he found himself two years later at the head of a leading ministry. He is also fifth in order of authority, just after the new Minister of National Education, Anne Genetet. This young man with bald head and piercing blue eyes therefore finds himself responsible for adding to the French word even though his work has kept him, until now, rather far from diplomacy.

European believe
During his time in European affairs, he established relations with the head of German diplomacy Annalena Baerbock. He himself is a convinced European. His first trip as ambassador for Europe was to Berlin, then to the Munich security conference.
He will now have to defend France’s interests in the whole world, and without delay, because it will immediately throw him into the deep end of international relations. In the coming days, he is expected to go to the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York where Lebanon, Gaza, Haiti, Iran and the peace plan of Ukraine decided to discuss will be put on the table in order to guarantee his security Russian aggression.
