Bar, sake, and snacks: Ikebana Izakaya is the new meeting point in Porto, a space that celebrates the essence of the Japanese Izakaya with a contemporary touch and a vast sake menu.
Ikebana Izakaya, located in one of the busiest regions of Porto, offers an immersive experience inspired by the Japanese concept of “izakaya.”
In Japan, izakayas are known for the perfect combination of drinks and food in small portions. The name “izakaya” comes from the ideograms that mean “stay-drink-place,” and that is exactly what Ikebana offers: a space to drink and snack at leisure, in an environment that blends the best of Japanese and Portuguese cultures.
With 56 seats and two pleasant outdoor terraces, the spot has a vast selection of beverages, including around 40 to 50 labels of sake. The space also features live music and DJs.
The restaurant’s design is by Fabiana Silvestre: “It was a quick project, but we managed to create what João and Agnaldo envisioned: a modern izakaya, different from the traditional Japanese tavern concept,” explains Fabiana.
The touch of Agnaldo Ferreira, chef and also a partner at Hikidashi and Ikeda, is in every detail, from the name inspired by Japanese floral art to the care taken with the cuisine.
Together with João Fedorowicz, the trio brings an innovative and engaging proposal to the city’s gastronomic scene.
The menu of Ikebana Izakaya reflects the modern and laid-back proposal of the house, combining classic Japanese dishes with a contemporary twist and offers a combination of dishes that are pleasing for both lunch and dinner.
For those seeking a complete and balanced meal at lunch, the Bento Box (€16), with breaded chicken or pork, accompanied by gyozas, a bowl of Thai rice, and a salad, is the ideal choice.
Additionally, the menu includes delights such as the Gunka Freestyle (€12) and the Salmon Teppanyaki (€16), which is grilled and served with vegetables. The gyozas (€7), stuffed with chicken and vegetables, offer a flavorful combination, while the Katsusand Wagyu (€14) is a sandwich made with brioche bread, wagyu, iceberg lettuce, caramelized onion, yakiniku sauce, and foie gras. The restaurant also offers lighter options, such as Temaki (€8).
To accompany, Ikebana offers a wide selection of beverages. Among the more than 50 sake labels, there are also classic drinks such as caipirinha, negroni, aperol, moscow mule, and old fashion, ensuring that each visit is a complete experience, both for lovers of Japanese cuisine and for those who simply want to relax.
