Laayoune – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Malawi, Nancy Tembo, reaffirmed, Tuesday in Laayoune, her country’s support for the territorial integrity of Morocco and the sovereignty of the Kingdom over its entire territory, including the Sahara region.
Speaking at a press briefing held after her talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Nasser Bourita, on the occasion of the 1st session of the joint cooperation commission between the two countries, Ms. Tembo stressed that Lilongwe reiterates its full support for the Moroccan autonomy plan initiative presented by the Kingdom of Morocco, as the only credible, serious and realistic solution, and welcomes the efforts of the United Nations as an exclusive framework to achieve a realistic, practical and lasting solution to the dispute over the Sahara.
For his part, Mr. Bourita welcomed the wisdom of Malawian diplomacy, thanking Lilongwe for its constant and firm support for the territorial integrity of Morocco, as evidenced by the opening of a Consulate General of Malawi in Laayoune in July 2021, and its participation, in January 2021, in the ministerial conference in support of the Autonomy Initiative under the sovereignty of Morocco, at the invitation of the Kingdom and the United States of America.
