Singer Kang Daniel (27) spoke about what he learned from his dispute with his agency.

Kang Daniel was interviewed on the 23rd at a cafe located on Yeongdong-daero in Gangnam-gu, Seoul ahead of the release of his fifth mini-album ‘ACT’. He will release ‘ACT’ at 6 PM that day.

On this day, Kang Daniel said about the changes after transferring to his new agency, Aera, “Everything is different. Even though I’m doing what I’ve been doing until now, it feels new.” He continued, “Even though I’m doing the same thing, it feels new and unfamiliar. I don’t know exactly what it is, and I think it’s probably because I’m afraid of starting something new.”

He continued, “Because it was something I had already experienced, I tried to think more carefully and find common ground on all fronts, but it didn’t work out,” and “That’s why I ended up going in an extreme direction, but fortunately, I had a history that I had walked before, so that seemed to serve as a guideline.”

He added, “At that time, I tried not to do anything at home and not to think about anything,” and “When I started working on music, I took the time to get rid of myself by thinking about writing only negative things first.”

When asked about the differences between when he was the CEO of an agency and now working as an affiliated singer, he said, “There’s a huge difference,” and confessed, “Before, I never once opened up about my feelings as a CEO and I even avoided it, but when I was the CEO, I felt a lot of psychological pressure.” He continued, “Now that I’m not doing practical work, I feel relieved, and I like it even more because I can focus solely on my main job,” and added, “I often tell artists around me who say, ‘Should I try starting a one-person agency? ’ that ‘You’ll regret it if you do. ’ I think it’s good to be affiliated with a company.”

Previously, Kang Daniel founded Connect Entertainment in June 2019 and served as its CEO, continuing his entertainment activities, but in May of this year, he filed a criminal complaint against the major shareholder of Connect Entertainment.

According to Kang Daniel’s legal representative, the major shareholder signed an advance distribution contract worth 10 billion won in December 2022 without Kang Daniel’s consent, and secretly withdrew at least 2 billion won from the agency’s account and over 1.7 billion won from Kang Daniel’s personal account. In addition, he used tens of millions of won using an anonymous corporate card and falsely recorded this in the accounting books as the client’s props cost.

Eventually, Kang Daniel announced on his social media in June that “the journey with Connect has come to an end.” Afterwards, he signed an exclusive contract with his agency, Aira, in July. Aira was founded by a director from Connect Entertainment.
