We need to incorporate the views and interests of youth and future generations into our policies. This was stated by Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev today in his speech during the Summit for the Future. He added that such initiatives are crucial at a time when we are facing a number of problems, such as military conflicts, the climate crisis and inequality.

The Summit for the Future takes place today and tomorrow as part of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly.

Glavchev said that the goal of the Summit and the Pact for the Future is to find multilateral solutions to bring global institutions and formats into line with today’s social, political and economic realities. He added that he expects them to create a safer, more sustainable and fairer world where no one is left behind by the international community.

According to him, at the heart of these efforts is the rule of law, which is essential to comply with international norms, establish justice and promote cooperation.

He notes that technology, which is rapidly transforming our societies, must be taken into account.

“Our goal is a free and secure digital world with universal access to the Internet. We strive for a human-centered, rights-based digital future that uses artificial intelligence to achieve and guarantee information integrity,” emphasized the caretaker prime minister.

In his speech, he announced a significant transformation of global governance.

“We need to modernize the UN organization, to ensure that it remains relevant and able to meet the challenges of the 21st century. This includes reforming the Security Council by adding additional seats for permanent and non-permanent members,” pointed out Dimitar Glavchev .

He emphasized that Bulgaria remains firmly committed to its commitment to an effective, multilateral system and that our country is dedicated to promoting international cooperation.

At the end of his speech, the acting Prime Minister called for unity around cooperation and decisive action.

“Let’s not disappoint the young and future generations,” concluded Glavchev.

The Future Summit aims to address the challenges and gaps in global governance and revitalize the multilateral system with the United Nations at its core. The Pact for the Future was also adopted earlier today, writes BTA.
